Rio Largo Extra Virgin Olive Oil

All you need to know about Rio Largo

Rio Largo is a family affair, owned and managed by Nick and Brenda Wilkinson. It is situated in the Cape on the southern tip of Africa in the Karoo semi-desert where the weather is just perfect for olive growing. Attention to detail is not negotiable.

It comprises olive orchards, vines, an olive specific nursery and a state of the art OLIOMIO olive processing and bottling plant. The terroir, with water on demand from the Breede River and Brandvlei Irrigation System, is perfect for olive growing with high sunshine hours, cold winters. There is the added benefit of the “Cape Doctor”, a nightly south easterly breeze, which helps keep pests and diseases at a minimum.

RIO LARGO OLIVE ESTATE has 18,000 trees made up of various cultivars; Frantoio, Leccino, Coratina and FS-17. All cultivars originate from Italy and are known to complement each other in making delicious, well balanced olive oil. The olives are hand-picked and pressed the same day using cold extraction methods to ensure the oil is always fresh and its unique flavours are preserved.
Rio Largo has won numerous international awards the latest being GOLD at the NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL OLIVE OIL COMPETITION
